Centrestage Youth Theatre
A meeting was held at the theatre on Saturday the 17th of April to gauge interest from parents & future participating students in forming a group which commits to meeting once a month for three or four hours, to learn all aspects of theatre performance and production from experienced Performers, Directors Choreographers, Musicians and Technical Personnel.
As a result of this meeting “Centrestage Junior Theatre” was formed and the first class held on 22nd of May 2010.
Pupils undertake to learn given songs from musical theatre, perform choreography, drama, comedy skits and also take part in workshops on costume, set, lighting & sound design.
These classes will prepare students for performing and later to enrol in the many performing arts schools in NZ where entry is by audition only.
There are over thirty Tutors & Mentors who expressed their interest in participating in this long overdue Junior Theatre concept.
Monthly sessions are now held on a Saturday 1pm till 5pm, with permanent tutors Travis MacLennan, Rosanne Sims & Sherrin Scelly, with an exciting workshop by a guest Tutor.
We have been overwhelmed by applicants and as at the 1st of August have settled at 55 students and have a small waiting list.
Enrolment forms & Centrestage Theatre Membership forms are available at the theatre Monday to Friday 10am-2pm & Saturday 10am– 12pm
